First Challenge Reveal A Success!!

We had our first challenge reveal last night....

WOW! 

Guidelines for the CC#1 Challenge:

1)  Must Read "Cobalt Blue" from 10 feet.

2)  Size - 6 - 15" x 15" quilts plus one 15" x 32" quilt.

That's it.... And THIS is what was created!

We pulled numbers for order of reveal and here are close up pictures of the quilts in the order they were revealed:

Still working on our hanging rack but I was very impressed with the display.

Designing outside of the box

Two questions...

Ellen asked if we might want to share at our reveal what our thought process was in designing or "coming to" our individual pieces. I think this is a great idea! By all means lets DO share, confident that in sharing, we may spark other’s creativity through the conceptual process.

Rene' brought up a great question the other day, "Does our piece have to stay within the boundaries of 15 X 15"?

Initially, I piped in with YES! But in retrospect, I believe that IF we limit even tiny elements to stay in those boundaries it might inhibit the creative process. By all means then, allow yourself to think and design "outside the box.” Be aware however, that others “boxes” will need to be displayed by yours and please, try not to crowd their display space as well. Items in a collection with irregular edges actually may add visual interest to our group displays, but limit it please. Is that as clear as mud?? Hoping to encourage creativity, not impede it!!

Kick Off Meeting Was A Success!

The kick off meeting of the Creative Conglomeration was last night and I think it was a success!  

 

We had an introduction to our new fiber group, 

a demo on Texture Magic!, 

and 

we received the information on our first Challenge! 

 

Now it's off to create!

Tomorrow Night - It's Almost Here!

Our first get-together is tomorrow!! 

Can't wait to have all the creative energy in one room!

Sew, here are some thoughts to get us going....

As we collectively move forward, two things I found yesterday are key to our success, clear concise deadlines and guidelines. Yesterday, I found myself in a bit of a dilemma. I had postponed working on a new challenge piece for my Austin fiber group and I found myself struggling. One, because I’d slipped the deadline up a week on my calendar to be certain to get it in early and then forgot I’d slipped the date! And two, because I wasn’t certain of the parameters of this challenge. Was the size to be 4 X 6, 9 X 12 or no, in fact 9 X 11?! It’s amazing what being discombobulated can do to stump creativity.

So, in an effort to have our group run smoothly, and have each of you flowing freely in your creative zones, we’ll not only present our deadlines and guidelines to the group at our meetings but we will post this information on our blog as well.

Effective communication will be a major key in the success of our group.

Now, to go back into the studio and hit it again, parameters in hand.... Fingers crossed, that today I find my “zen" creative zone!
